Evaluate California’s regulations and statutes pertaining to hydrogen as a transportation fuel and assist in the development of commercialization strategies for renewable hydrogen

Advise clients regarding the nature of California’s fuel and carbon regulations, to optimize sales, business development, and regulatory compliance strategies

Participate in ARB rule makings on behalf of clients to ensure that regulations are informed by market participants and provide valuable market incentives

Determine the highest value programs and incentives available to developers of fuels and co-products derived from municipal solid waste, wastewater, and dairy waste.

Represent clients facing California Air Resources Board enforcement actions under the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Mandatory Reporting Regulation (MRR), Cap-and-Trade and other programs

Coordinate discussions between the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the State of California in preparation for Clean Energy Ministerial 7 to advance international collaboration on climate change and low carbon transportation issues

Draft petroleum products and biofuel contracts to conform with Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and other regulatory requirements for an international fuel trading company with worldwide refining, storage and distribution assets

Advise major petroleum companies and international trading companies regarding Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), and other U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel regulatory programs

Represent clients in RFS pathways, rulemakings, and informal guidance proceedings before the EPA

Represent clients that have received Requests for Information (RFI) or Notices of Violation (NOV’s) from the EPA pursuant to the Renewable Fuel Standard

Draft legal agreements for the production, sale, and distribution for biofuels production and marketing companies including for producers of conventional ethanol and biodiesel; and advanced biofuel producers utilizing algae, and cellulosic materials

Lead the legal team for a series of large-scale anaerobic digester projects, and develop the related feedstock and off-take agreements

Assist pulp and paper companies developing energy islands to produce qualified renewable biomass energy under western state Renewable Portfolio Standards
